SECTION COMMAND: HELMAND OPS - PRESS FACT SHEET tacticalchicken.games/press (updated 19 October 2026) IN ONE LINE Section Command: Helmand Ops is a real-time tactics game about the British Army in Helmand, played from above, a section at a time. FACTS Title: Section Command: Helmand Ops (short form: Section Command) Developer: Tactical Chicken Studios: one person, Jack Mustard (Fist Full Of Mustard on Steam) Publisher: Self-published Genre: Real-time tactics Setting: Helmand, Afghanistan Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux (Steam) Playtest: Free in a desktop web browser, one mission (Zarghun): tacticalchicken.games/section-command Release date: Not yet dated Price: Not yet set Status: Pre-alpha Languages: English Press contact: hello@tacticalchicken.games SHORT DESCRIPTION Section Command: Helmand Ops is a real-time tactics game about the British Army in Afghanistan. You command a rifle company's sections, teams and attachments directly, the way a platoon commander would: suppress, flank and clear compounds, call in the guns and the Chinook, and win the valley's people round without losing your men. A free playtest, one mission, plays in the browser now while the full campaigns are built; the full game is coming to Steam. FEATURES - Fire and movement: one group puts rounds down while the other bounds; the gun on the flank; smoke, then the assault. - Cover is everything: mud walls, irrigation ditches, tree lines and the crops of the green zone. - Compounds cleared room by room: a hole blown in the wall rather than the gate, the stack on the door. - The wounded go down, not out: buddy aid, the team medic, and the MERT in the back of a Chinook. - Fire support from the Fire Support Team, but only onto a target somebody can see. - A valley with a pattern of life, the rules of engagement as they were (no positive ID, no shooting), IEDs in the tracks, and shuras with the elders. Every civilian hurt costs the village's trust. - No two missions play out the same: the enemy forces are randomised, there's more than one way to complete each one, and how you go about it is up to you. - Patrol bases built with sangars, HESCO and towers, held, and handed to the Afghan Army. - A free playtest now: the five training areas and one mission, Zarghun (three days), the ground where the systems are being tuned with players' feedback. The full game is planned as campaigns built around a fourteen-day tour. - Played from above in 2D, with the soldiers, vehicles and people built as 3D models and drawn from overhead.
